Numbered plan.jpg

This site is designed as a resource to accompany the lecture Art of Empire: Forum of Augustus

The key elements of the Forum of Augustus are outlined and numbered on the plan to the left. Use this as a central point of navigation to explore these elements through the links to the right. Although the elements are numbered in the order in which a visitor to the forum would experience its space, there is no set order of access on this site

Each page begins with the essential information about an individual element of the forum, with further details below

Words in italics are in Latin, and underlined words are important vocabulary. These are all outlined in the glossary (link at right)

The images on this site include those taken by Monique Webber of The University of Melbourne, and images from Virtual Rome: A Digital Reconstruction of the Ancient City (http://www.reading.ac.uk/classics/research/Virtual-Rome.aspx) and the course Rome: A Virtual Tour of the Ancient City (https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/rome) created by Matthew Nicholls of The University of Reading and provided with his kind permission

The attribution of all images, and links to their sources, can be accessed by clicking on each image to reveal its metadata. This will also bring the image up in a larger size

The bar at the top right of each page can be used to search for individual images

At any point in using this site, clicking the 'Central Page - Start Here' tab at top left will navigate back to this page
